2013 Mud Dogs Raise $7,386 for RIS in Memory of Eric Skogman

Eric's Helmet Full of Love and SupportRIS’s thanks and congratulations go out to the 2013 Mud Dog Riders: Pat Bourgeois, Joel Mellenthin, Lynn Keillor, Justin Klett, Jeff Gruhlke, Dan Skallet and Jessie Steinwand for their overwhelmingly successful 235 mile snowmobile ride to Brainerd and the MnUSA Rendezvous in February. They collected from the snowmobiling community a record $7,386 to support RIS and preserve the memory of Eric Skogman.

One very touching moment was recorded by Joel Mellenthin and the Banquet at the MN Snowmobile 2013 Rendezvous.  Read More…
"I had the opportunity to address the group during the MnUSA Rendezvous banquet on Saturday evening. I told the story of Eric's request, his ashes being spread, and of his helmet traveling with us on the Mud Dogs Run. I then sent his helmet around the room - asking attendees to place their spare change for RIS donations in the helmet. I was overwhelmed when it was returned to my table - it was over flowing with cash! It was an emotional moment for me, as I envisioned Eric smiling. The snowmobiling community is like none other I know. In a matter of minutes they had graciously packed $458.10 into Eric’s helmet! Way cool!"
Another touching moment was that Pat Bourgeois rode in spite of the death of his father that week and asked for memorials to his father Emery Bourgeois be added to the fund. Our condolences go out to Pat on the loss of his father.
The very human Mud Dogs showed us that when we attack a problem by “riding with a purpose” we can bring hope and fun to war on sarcoma. The money earned will be added to the Eric Skogman-Mud Dog Fund of Rein in Sarcoma to further Eric dream that we accomplish our mission of research, education and support.
